Nexans wins 2025 EIPM-Peter Králjic Award

Nexans’ Purchasing team won the 2025 Peter Králjic Award for Best Organization of the Year at the European Institute of Purchasing Management’s 28th annual conference, in recognition of its outstanding procurement model. Another highlight at the conference was a keynote talk by Group Purchasing Vice-President Jérôme Chiquet, who shared Nexans’ vision with more than 400 leading purchasing professionals.

Positive impact

This distinction recognizes much more than the in-depth transformation that Nexans’ Purchasing function has undergone—which far exceeds mere cost management. The jury notably commended our model for fostering supplier engagement, long-term value creation, innovation, circularity and our procurement community’s unwavering dedication.

The EIPM-Peter Králjic Awards have recognized excellence in procurement organizations that act as role models, delivering outstanding performance to their companies and demonstrating high levels of creativity, innovation, and respect for the environment and society, since 2010. The awards process begins with a rigorous fact-based nomination process, finalists are assessed during a site visit including interviews, and the winners are selected by a jury of specialists.

Redefined vision

In his talk on Leading Through Uncertainty: Clear Strategy, Strong Partnerships!, Jérôme Chiquet explained how Nexans is navigating the increasingly complex global landscape—shaped by market volatility, resource scarcity and political uncertainty—through a three-pronged approach combining a clear-cut strategy, a long-term vision and a strong ecosystem of partnerships.

The E3 (Economics, Environment and Engagement) model at the core of this strategy involves assessing suppliers based on a 360-degree approach, factoring in their sustainability, product innovation and supply chain resilience as well as their financial metrics, based on shared roadmaps. Our supplier assessment platform, which we launched in 2023, provides Nexans with a holistic view of supplier performance, enabling us to select best-in-class partners.

Measurable results and visible transformation

The figures reflect this strategy’s impact on operations: two-thirds of Nexans’ supplier spend with its key suppliers is now backed up by long-term agreements, we have implemented more than 50 cooperation projects and have 100 others in the pipeline, and 70% of our key suppliers proactively propose new solutions to Nexans, fueling innovation and sustainability across the supply chain.

An increasingly resilient and sustainable supply chain

Suppliers have been instrumental in the significant footprint reduction that Nexans has achieved so far. The Group aims to reduce emissions by 42% in Scopes 1 and 2 by 2028 while increasing recycled copper content in its products from 5% to 25%.

This transformation is also tangible in the relationship that Nexans has built with its partner suppliers. Its Suppliers Day has gathered 300+ partners accounting for 75% of the Group’s spend every year since 2021, to anchor its partnerships in its strategy and priorities.

A conference that is redefining the procurement function

The EIPM’s annual conference brings together established leaders and standard-setting global organizations to share the latest practices, breakthroughs and transformations in procurement, and to foster progress across the function. The program includes insights from academics and consultants, CEOs, CPOs and other procurement leaders to cross-fertilize three complementary perspectives.

The Peter Králjic Award distinguishing Nexans underlines a simple but frequently overlooked fact: excellence in purchasing supports a company’s financial performance and enhances its competitive edge while strengthening its resilience, driving innovation and delivering lasting impact.
