IMOCA Nexans Art & Fenêtres - Fabrice Amedeo

Involved in an ambitious project by IMOCA Nexans – Art & Fenêtres, Fabrice Amedeo and his team are working to complete the installation of the new C-foils before the launch. This work involves refurbishing all of the vessel's operating systems. For electronics, they can count on their partner Nexans, which has developed all the monohull’s wiring, making it lighter and more efficient.

Before taking to the sea again and re-experiencing the excitement of departure and the thrill of the race, a few weeks ago, they were working in the shade on a painstaking but essential task. The Nexans - Art & Fenêtres teams mobilised to structurally strengthen the vessel and also to equip it with more efficient electronics and autopilots before the launch planned for mid-April.

Several Nexans services involved

On the electronics front, the team worked to re-wire the entire monohull. This was carried out in synergy with Nexans, the official sponsor and world leader in the design and manufacture of cable and service systems. “We took advantage of this opportunity to offer Nexans cables and participate, through our partnership, in the development of the vessel”, explains Vincent Dessale, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Executive Vice President Building & Territoires Northern Business Group of the company.

This is a very valuable contribution to a particularly cutting-edge technological challenge. “As with an aircraft, we have a weight constraint,” notes Martin Piquet, electronics manager of the Nexans – Art & Fenêtres Team. It's a racing boat so it must be as light as possible.” Nine different types of cables were produced and supplied by Nexans to Fabrice Amedeo's technical team, totalling 2,655 metres of aeronautical cables that are very light, safe, flexible and efficient, in order to meet the constraints of the IMOCA.

“ We based our partnership on three important elements for us at Nexans. The first is Fabrice’s commitment to ocean preservation. The second is its involvement with the younger generations who are our future. And the third is of course the spirit of competition and innovation which are also values that are close to our hearts. Simply put: the values of Fabrice and his team are a perfect match for those of our company. ”
