La Fée Électricité

Our partnership with the Museum of Modern Art in Paris

Nexans is a partner of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris to develop an educational tool for one of its iconic frescos: “La Fée Électricité” (The Electricity Fairy) by Raoul Dufy.

This educational tool is designed to become a scalable content platform, through its dedicated website and a programme of themed podcasts.

Christopher Guérin
“ We are very enthusiastic about being associated with this project of the Museum of Modern Art, which is both innovative and educational, to highlight Raoul Dufy's masterpiece, the Electricity Fairy. It will illustrate in an original way the core business of Nexans around energy and its supply ”
Christopher Guérin
Nexans' CEO

Commissioned by the Parisian electricity distribution company for the Pavillon de la Lumière at the 1937 World Fair, La Fée Électricité (The Electricity Fairy) was an opportunity for Raoul Dufy to give a valuable account of the incredible amibition of the epoch for technological progress and the consideration of contemporary issues.

La Fée Électricité allows visitors to the museum — including many young people and school children — to learn about the history of electricity in a fun, original and modern way. This approach also offers an awareness of the concept of progress over time.

This monumental work celebrates the invention of electricity and its allied technologies by showcasing 108 scientists and thinkers who contributed to this fabulous discovery around a power plant guarded by the gods of Olympus!

Thanks to the contribution of Nexans, the Museum of Modern Art is developing a free digital media tool for this huge fresco of more than 600m2, one of the largest modern art paintings in the world.

Nexans is proud to contribute to the design and development of an augmented reality system combined with a dedicated website.

Exploration in augmented reality will offer visitors an experience combining art and science, with a mix of content on the work and scientific outreach.

“ For the Museum of Modern Art, Nexans' support is part of a process of valuing and re-discovering the richness of its collection. By linking arts, sciences and industry, this partnership will enrich and renew the understanding of the "Electricity Fairy" beyond the strictly artistic field. This support is part of a large-scale digital mediation project designed to bring this masterpiece to more diverse audiences around the world. ”
