About the project
As the world's leading wind-power nation, Denmark has decided to take yet another step forward and install larger, more powerful windmill parks further out to sea than ever before. The first facility is to be built at Horns Rev and will consist of 80 windmills, each of 2 MW. This sea-based windmill park will start supplying electricity from July 2002.
Nexans has been awarded a contract from Eltra in Denmark, an electricity transmission company based in Jylland/Fyn (Denmark), to deliver and install 21km of subsea power cable to the world's largest sea-based windmill park, Horns Rev, by the Danish west-coast.
Nexans' solutions
Nexans delivered and installed the world's most powerful three-conductor AC cable: a 150 kV underwater power cable going directly into Eltra's electricity transmission system on land. Due to its transmission capacity and size manufacturing this cable was a major professional challenge. Nexans beat the stiff competition for this contract mainly due to its wide-ranging offshore experience.
