Driving industrial competitiveness through decarbonization
Nexans Maroc recently took part in the 4th edition of the International Energy Forum, bringing together key stakeholders shaping the future of energy and industry in Morocco.
During the panel on Industry, Decarbonization & Competitiveness, one message stood out: low-carbon energy can only become a true driver of industrial competitiveness if it is reliable, accessible, and efficiently distributed.
Representing Nexans, Mohamed Kammah highlighted the critical role of electrical infrastructure—particularly medium-voltage cables—in connecting renewable energy, securing power networks, and supporting the electrification of uses.
A strategic investment: Nexans Safi plant
Announced in December 2023, the Safi plant marks Nexans’ third industrial site in Morocco, reinforcing the Group’s long-term commitment to the country and its ambition to support electrification across Africa.
Designed as a next-generation greenfield facility, the plant will integrate advanced standards in sustainability, digitalization, and innovation, in line with Nexans’ PWR-Grid strategy. It will also contribute to strengthening local industrial integration and positioning Morocco as a competitive export platform.

The project also embeds strong sustainability features, including solar energy integration, water desalination, closed-loop recycling systems, and advanced effluent treatment—supporting Nexans’ objective to minimize environmental footprint.
Supporting electrification and industrial growth
Beyond expanding capacity, the Safi plant contributes to two key priorities: accelerating electrification through increased medium-voltage cable production, and fostering a competitive “Made in Morocco” industrial ecosystem.
Panel discussions also emphasized that energy efficiency remains a key lever for immediate competitiveness, while anticipating international standards is becoming essential for maintaining market access.
Delivering reliable and sustainable electrification starts with strong local capabilities and collective execution.
