Nexans completes successful qualification testing of ‘Best Paths’ superconductor cable for HVDC power links
EU-funded ‘Best Paths’ project has created a new modular HVDC superconductor cable system designed for bulk power transmission over long distances with minimal resistive losses.Test program has qualified the 320 kV direct current superconducting cable for currents up to 10 kA with a 3.2 GW power transmission capability.

With a trial local smart grid, the project aims to use wind energy to support the use of electric vehicles by reducing the region’s carbon footprint.

• New all-electric actuated subsea boosting station is set to improve recovery from Vigdis by around 11 million barrels of oil.
• Boosting station will be powered by an innovative Nexans power umbilical that combines high voltage power supply and umbilical functions in a single cable cross-section.
• The two-year contract is valued at around 10 million Euros.

Nexans has been awarded a 35-million-euro contract to supply cables to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure as part of National Grid’s Dorset VIP project. Project involves replacing overhead lines with Nexans’ underground high voltage cables to enable 22 pylons to be removed.
