IRMA Hurricane: The Nexans Foundation and Sonepar France are jointly supporting Electriciens sans Frontières’ operations in Saint-Martin
Hurricane IRMA has left many Caribbean islands completely devastated, with no electricity, no telecommunication facilities, and with all the problems of drinking water and safety associated with this type of situation.
For several days Electriciens sans frontières, together with its partners in the field, has been preparing the conditions and manner of its intervention.
As a first step an initial team of four will go with the Red Cross to St. Martin. It is taking with it the necessary equipment to supply power to several disaster centres, so that they can work with safe lighting, electrical connection points for recharging mobile phones, other communication devices and office equipment.
The equipment that will be deployed currently includes several dozens of generators with wiring, connectors and suitable lighting, as well as 3,000 portable solar lamps.
Electriciens sans frontières will also be able to respond to urgent local demands, in coordination with the main stakeholders, in particular EDF.
The equipment deployed in the field was mobilised thanks to our partnerships with several companies in the electricity sector, including Legrand, Schneider, Sdmo, Nexans and Philips.
Depending on the situation on the spot, other assignments may be launched.
