Nexans to supply 500km of cable for airfield lighting system of Cairo International Airport
Paris, October 20, 2009 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, is supplying Cairo Engineering Equipment with approximately 500km of cable to be used in the new third runway being constructed at Cairo International Airport in Egypt. Construction of the new runway has already started and it will be 4,000 metres long and 65 metres wide. It will replace the current cross runway after it becomes operational, increasing the capacity of the airport to 120 movements per hour.
The 500km of cable supplied by Nexans will comprise 340kms 5kV primary cable that will provide power to the lighting transformers and 80kms of H07RN-F standard secondary cable which will connect the transformers to the airfield lights. The system will also include 80km of H07V-U standard earth cables.

The cables will be manufactured at Nexans’ plants located in Lyon, Bohain and Autun in France.
