Ethernet plus energy

The OneReach PoE (Power over Ethernet) Extender System allows Internet-based devices, like video cameras, to be located well beyond 100 meters from the telco closet. This significantly widens the range of video surveillance and monitoring at considerable cost savings, compared to conventional digital CCTV. 
 
 

Failsafe surveillance

Through a composite copper/fiber cable and specially-designed media converters, the power for the IP (Internet Protocol) device and the media converters are located in the cabinet up to 1,100 meters away.  Coupled to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), it allows for full and economical power backup for all vital systems.

Once copper/fiber cable was developed for CCTV, it became apparent that an important new application would be to extend the reach of a PoE system.  Existing technologies have been used, but all require a power source near the camera, media converter, or active switch.  By working with a partner that had developed the media converters, the complete system was assembled with the help of end-users and consultants. Initial installation was at the Hudson Valley Community College garage for use with an IP camera system.

 

Universal applications

The system will significantly enhance campus-range surveillance where growing distances are a factor, and could be used in parking lots, airports, train stations, ports, security-sensitive public buildings, industrial parks, stadiums and museums, etc.
This low-voltage solution allows the customer and contractor to avoid the expensive and time-consuming task of installing multiple power outlets.  It also establishes Berk-Tek as an important vendor of security products, a growing market segment in North America.
