Nexans and BC Hydro sign five-year extension to utility cable and wire supply contract in Canada
Nexans will provide around 54 million euros of power cable over the next five years
Paris, December 5, 2007 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has signed with BC Hydro, the electric utility for the Canadian province of British Columbia, a five-year extension to its existing utility cable and wire supply contract.
This latest agreement, valued at around 54 million euros ($75 million CAD), further extends the long-standing relationship established in 1999, when BC Hydro selected Nexans as its primary supplier for utility cables and wires. Nexans’ products will be used to reinforce the province’s power distribution infrastructure in readiness for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and will also feature in the further expansion of the SkyTrain fully-automated rapid transit system.
Nexans provides BC Hydro with cables, wires and accessories used by the overhead and underground power distribution network throughout British Columbia, including medium voltage and low voltage cables, and bare aluminum and ACSR (aluminum conductor steel-reinforced) wires. Besides cable and wire products, Nexans will also provide commercial assistance, technical support during installation phases for example as well as engineering services.

The wire and cable products to be delivered to BC Hydro over the next five years will be manufactured locally in the Nexans Weyburn plant in southeastern Saskatchewan, and the Fergus plant in Ontario.
