#OceanCalling: Oceans and microplastics
Discover the latest scientific results from the analysis of marine water samples collected by Fabrice Amedeo during the Vendée Globe 2020 in the presence of scientists and with the participation of Jérôme Fournier, Nexans VP Innovation, Services & Growth.
53 samples were taken during the last Vendée Globe. The first results of the analysis of the 300 µm filters were unveiled in Marseille last spring at Onet, a faithful partner of the oceanographic project, and showed that the surface waters of the Atlantic Ocean are twice as polluted by cellulose fibers as by microplastics.
The analyses of the samples taken on the 100 µm mesh filters have just been finalized. The next step is to discover how the smaller fragments are distributed in the water column. A new wave of results will be explained during a webconference organized on Monday January 30th at 10 am.
