Hybrid cables

innovation hot cables illu 2Cleaner, quieter, safer and cheaper

To reduce fuel consumption, automakers are combining electrical power with combustion engines.  Nexans new high-voltage cables are compact, flexible, achieve excellent electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC) for safety, and can operate in hot engine compartments.

Cooling down hybrid hot hoods

Hybrid cars (with gas or diesel engines) have new requirements. Electric motors demand 600 volts in close proximity to critical safety elements, and must not generate interference. They are mounted in hot areas with minimal space, and must endure 180°C for 3,000 hours while being subjected to aggressive chemicals, fluids, acids and oil.

Attractive braids and silicone

The producers of electrical automotive components and harnesses appreciate our high-temperature cables for hybrid cars, which have a copper braid and are insulated with a silicon sheath, making them very flexible and durable.

Electrifying shared experience

We drew on our knowledge in other market sectors, like generators and rolling stock, and adapted it to new requirements.  There was close cooperation between our plants in Nuremberg and Breitenbach. The Nuremberg team provided automotive experience based on customer contacts and how to apply relevant knowledge to new applications. The team in Breitenbach brought its excellent know-how of silicone insulations, as well as experience in handling voltages up to 1,000 V (which will be very important for new hybrid buses and trucks).

Optimized cross-section

Ecology and economy are among the priorities of automotive cabling. Higher temperature insulations also allow manufacturers to use smaller, optimized cross-sections, and that means a lighter vehicle and lower fuel consumption.
