Globally recognized as the must-attend Smart Grid gathering, GridWeek is the only event with a proven history of attracting the complete diversity of global Smart Grid stakeholders to explore Smart Grid’s impact on the economy, utility infrastructure, consumers and the environment while answering the industry’s most pressing questionsWe are proud to be a Gold sponsor of GridWeek 2010 and to participate in the following exciting sessions:
Optimizing the Transmission Grid
October 20 at 1:45-3:15 p.m.
Presenter : Sandy Aivaliotis, The Valley Group, a Nexans company
The transmission grid is the backbone connecting electricity generation sources to consumers. This session will examine the technical and policy issues of transmission and grid optimization, discuss utility initiatives, and identify R&D activities that are moving the science and reliability forward. Smart Grid - Beyond the Meter
October 20 at 10:15-11:15 a.m.
Presenter : Ron Stelmak, The Valley Group, a Nexans company
One of the great promises of the Smart Grid is increased consumer choice. Whether it’s access to renewable energy, or lower cost energy, we should be doing everything we can to expand the choice available to consumers. The transmission grid is a key link in the chain that delivers that choice. While the transmission grid has historically done well serving the consumer, increased demand, new technologies and a host of other issues have led it to develop congestion bottlenecks that limit choices and drive up consumer costs. The ultimate solution is the building of new transmission lines; that process can take up to 7 years, or longer, and cost billions of dollars. Fortunately, Smart Grid technologies have entered the scene that boost the efficiency of the existing transmission grid, and in a matter of months bridge the gap between today's grid and the future grid; technologies that increase choice and reduce costs both today and tomorrow. Come get the facts and share them with your readers. More info, click here.
Media Briefing
October 19 at 11:30 a.m.
Earlier this year, Nexans announced our participation in the Energy Research Initiative (ERI) project with the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC). This $5 million industry-university partnership is committed to pursuing key Smart Grid initiatives. Other industry members include ABB, Applied Materials, Bosch, First Solar, IBM and Tokyo Electron. In conjunction with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the ERI establishes a Smart Grid Research Center to support the integration of renewable energy resources and provide methods to enhance wide area situational awareness, optimize asset utilization and operating efficiency, and secure the power grid. Representatives from ERI, SRC, CMU and Nexans will provide a project update and field questions. More info, click here.
