The Nexans Foundation is mobilized to help typhoon victims in the Philippines
Mobilization of the Nexans Foundation
As Typhoon Haiyan unfolded in the central Philippines, the Nexans Foundation expresses its solidarity and would like to allocate a special grant in the amount of 50,000 euros for ESF, non-governmental organization, in order to provide sustainable assistance to the victims of the disaster. This allocation aims to support the humanitarian assistance programs for the refugees through the construction of a temporary accommodation village. The initiative will as well provide access to energy and water supplies. The village will accommodate up to 2,000 people.
ESF is a non-governmental organization (NGO), which provides the poorest communities of the world with the access to energy supplies. Following the call for projects launched last April, the Nexans Foundation will support three new ESF projects: in Cameroun,Burkina Faso and Togo. Facing fuel poverty :
Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8 and it wiped out entire villages. The death toll has risen above 5,200, making it one of the deadliest typhoons ever to make landfall in recent history of the Philippines’ natural disasters.
The Nexans Foundation objective is to accompany and enhance active and sustained participation of our Group in various solidarity initiatives around the world as well as to reduce fuel poverty and insecurity. For more information: http://www.fondationnexans.com/.
