Nexans reinforces its Executive Committee

Paris, July 1st, 2009 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, announces the appointments of four new executive committee members.

Three nominations follow an organizational change within the Europe Area which is now divided into 3 separate areas: Western Europe, Northern Europe and Central Europe. With an industrial presence in 17 countries, these 3 areas employed in 2008 more than 14,000 people for a total sales of 3,225 million Euros, representing 48% of the Group’s total sales by destination.

As a consequence:

  • Norbert Bluthé is appointed Executive Vice President Western Europe while remaining Country Manager of Nexans France.
     
  • William English is named Executive Vice President, Northern Europe and he will be replaced as Country Manager Nexans Benelux.
     
  • Francis Krähenbühl is appointed Executive Vice President, Central Europe and remains Country Manager of Nexans Germany.


Moreover,

  • Stephen Hall, succeeding Gordon Thursfield, is appointed Executive Vice-President for the Group’s North America Area, effective on July 1st, 2009. He will be responsible for Nexans’ North America business which includes Energy, LAN and Industry activities. In 2008, the year ended with an increase in sales of cables and cabling systems, despite the economic downturn. The North America Area represents 15% of the Group’s total sales by destination.

The Nexans Executive Committee will now comprise 14 members:

  • Pascal Portevin - Senior Corporate Executive Vice President, in charge of definition and implementation of commercial and innovation policies ; the MERA, Asia-Pacific, North America, and South America Areas report to him
  • Yvon Raak - Senior Corporate Executive Vice President, in charge of definition and implementation of industrial and logistics policy ; the Western Europe, Northern Europe and Central Europe areas report to him
  • Nicholas Ballas - Executive Vice President Asia-Pacific Area
  • Wolfgang Bedorf - Executive Vice President Middle East Russia Africa Area (MERA)
  • Norbert Bluthé - Executive Vice President, Western Europe, Country Manager, France
  • William English - Executive Vice President, Northern Europe
  • Stephen Hall - Executive Vice President North America Area
  • Francis Krähenbühl - Executive Vice President, Central Europe
  • Jean-Claude Nicolas - Senior Corporate Vice President Communications
  • Patrick Noonan - General Counsel, Senior Corporate Vice President, Secretary General

Norbert Bluthé started his professional career with Rhodia where he was involved in research, marketing and management of business units in France and in the U.S. In 2005, he joined Nexans France as Building and Infrastructure Activities Manager. He was then appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 2008. Afterwards, he moved to Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of Nexans France at beginning of 2009. Norbert Bluthé is a graduate from the Ecole Polytechnique and holds a management degree from INSEAD. He has a Ph.D. of organic chemistry.

William English started his career in 1973 in the aluminum industry, and joined the financial department of Alcatel in 1978. He worked first as Financial Controller in the Public Switching Division, and then in the Business Systems Division. He was appointed Finance Director for Alcatel in the UK in 1985, and subsequently was responsible for the Telecom activities of the Business Systems Division in the UK. He became head of the Financial Control of Alcatel in 1994, and joined Alcatel Cable** in 1998. After having been in charge of the Industrial Applications Product Line, he was appointed Country Manager for Benelux in 2001. William English graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris.

William English

Stephen Hall started his career with Shell Canada and joined Canada Wire & Cable* in 1986 to focus on developing process control systems for the cable industry. He has held a wide variety of management roles within the company covering Engineering, IT, Production and General Management. Earlier in 2009, he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer responsible for production and sales for North America. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University and an MBA from York University. Stephen is a Canadian and currently based in Ontario, Canada.

Francis Krähenbühl began his career as R & D Manager of Câbles Cortaillod in 1987. From 1993 – 2004 he was holding different responsibilities in the Swiss management and the product line organization of Alcatel Cable and Nexans. Before being appointed Country Manager Nexans in Germany in January 2008, Francis Krähenbühl was Country Manager and head of Nexans Switzerland from 2004 to 2007. Since 2008, he is member of the board of the ZVEI (German Association of the Electrical and Electronic Industry) and chairman of the Cables and Insulated Wire Committee. He graduated as a doctor of Physical Chemistry from the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Francis Kraehenbuehl
