Nexans cable solutions create innovative connections for the wind industry

Visitors attending the WindEnergy Exhibition can see how Nexans offers a comprehensive range of innovative connection technologies for wind energy applications. A main highlight of the stand is 66 kV inter-array cables for the new generation of high voltage wind farms, together with high voltage submarine and land AC and HVDC cables as well as power accessories including the WINDLINK ® CONNECTION SYSTEM.

Nexans high voltage cables are ideally suited for the creation of high performance, low loss connections for future offshore and onshore wind applications. 66 kV submarine cables have been developed specifically for inter-array connections that interlink high voltage wind turbines and connecting them to transformer stations – they are currently being deployed in UK’s Blyth offshore wind demonstration project.

HVDC export cables

HVDC power links are now able to utilize Nexans state-of-the-art XLPE cables that are fully qualified to 320 kV, while type testing at 525 kV has just been successfully completed. At the same time Nexans has further extended the capability of its mass impregnated cables by qualifying its 600 kV design that provides a power transmission capacity of 1900 MW in a bipole configuration.

Nexans power accessories

Nexans is a leading supplier of low-voltage, medium-voltage and high-voltage accessories, as well as connection technology for power cables. At the exhibition Nexans is presenting its EUROMOLD® power accessories up to 72.5 kV along with the new GPH® mechanical connector for flexible aluminium conductors.
Also on show is the WINDLINK® CONNECTION SYSTEM that provides easy-to-assemble, safe and customer specific possibilities for the durable connection of low-voltage systems. Nexans also offers an extensive range of additional equipment and installation training programmes.
