Installing an AERO-Z® cable for the link between Birnin-Kebbi and Niamey will allow Nexans to respond to an increased demand for electricity in the Niger River area because it will increase the power transmission capacity of this link by up to 75%.
It will replace the traditional saturated conductors that previously required energy to be produced locally in parallel by gas turbines and diesel generators that are very costly in terms of fuel.
Securing the power supply will allow vital facilities (water pumps, health centers, public lighting systems) to receive a continuous supply of electricity and almost stop the use of fossil fuels to operate auxiliary generators.
Nexans supplied and installed in an extremely short time a total length of 820 km of AERO-Z® conductors to the Nigerian Electricity Society (NIGELEC) for this project in 2008.
