  • Manufacture and install power supply to Valhall offshore field in the Norwegian section of the North Sea, for BP.

 

Customer challenges:

  • The world's first offshore oilfield where all power is supplied from shore
  • Reduce power production with gason the platform
  • To reduce the risk of fire and explosions
  • To reduce emissions (CO2 and NOx)

 

2 BP's Valhall Power from Shore project in Norway

Nexans' solutions:

  • 293 km of subsea cable of type MI (Mass Impregnated) HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) with IRC (Integrated Return Conductor) (150 kV).
  • A separate optical fiber subsea cable.
  • All connected to equipment in converter stations onshore and on the platform.
  • Power cables manufactured at Nexans' factory in Halden.
  • Optical fiber manufactured at Nexans' factory in Rognan.
  • Installed by C/S Nexans Skagerrak and trenched/protected by use of the Capjet system.
