Our objective is to develop new materials for high voltage cables and accessories (joints, terminations, etc.) and to characterize them through conventional or less conventional methods in order to ensure that they can meet short term and long term requirements for the final products.
New materials To help prepare improved formulations and optimize their processing, we use equipment comparable to those used in manufacturing (internal mixers, roll mills, extruders, twin screw extruders, injection moulding press, compression moulding press?. All insulating materials for the high voltage domain are prepared in clean rooms.
Characteristics testing New materials have to be characterized according to standard tests. Some of these new materials are non-linear in the sense that their properties depend on electrical field and temperature. Their properties vary also with the waveform of the applied stress. One of our concerns is the material behaviour under DC stress. In that case, most properties are governed by space charges, which are characterized by advanced methods (potential decay, mirror method, etc.).
